HELP STOP ROD'S GROSS TAXGovernor Blagojevich already has presided over an administration that has resulted in the eighth worst job-producing record in the nation. Eighth worst, not eighth best. He has clobbered small businesses and Fortune 500 corporations alike with higher taxes and fees, more costs and more regulation. His anti-business climate has driven jobs across our borders and out of Illinois. It has cost our families and our state jobs and threatened financial vitality of our communities and our families. That’s his record. Not very good, but it gets worse. Much worse. Now our Democratic governor wants to hit business with a new tax bill totaling as much as six billion dollars. Six billion dollars that will tax their already slim profit margin to the breaking point. Or six billion dollars that will come out of your pockets in higher prices for every product you purchase. We should be a state that welcomes business expansion and promotes job growth. And every one of us has a vested stake in what is afoot in Springfield because that new Blagojevich gross receipts tax tax means his hand will be in your pocket and the pockets of every business in Illinois again. The Illinois Chamber of Commerce says bluntly the new Blagojevich gross receipts tax would affect every large manufacturer and every small business in the state and “drive some of them right out of business." The Illinois Manufacturers Association is equally ominous, saying the new tax “would be the absolute death knell to manufacturing in Illinois." So, don’t be fooled by what is sure to be ripe rhetoric from the governor that he is merely closing some corporate tax loopholes. Don’t believe him when he claims Illinois businesses are not pulling their weight in the state’s tax burden – business tax revenues already are higher in Illinois than the nation as a whole. Make no mistake about it. This is a new tax on Illinois business and Illinois consumers … a tax Illinois cannot afford. Contact your state legislators NOW and let them know you want to Stop Rod and his new tax.
